OpenAI reportedly cuts its funding target from $30 billion to $20 billion with about $11 billion committed at a $1.25 trillion valuation
The Wall Street Journal reported on 31 October that OpenAI has secured about $11 billion of commitments for its latest round, less than half its original ~$30 billion target, after tepid responses from some large investors. The Financial Times first reported the target cut to as much as $20 billion, with a first close expected below that and a post-money valuation of about $1.25 trillion, down from the $1.4 trillion sought. CNBC confirmed the cut on 31 October, noting the round is still open with final terms subject to change, an investor deadline of 31 October, plans to approach family offices and wealthy individuals for more, and a possible IPO as early as next year.
