Granola adds system-wide dictation, completing the notetaker-to-dictation convergence with Wispr and Fireflies
Granola launched a dictation feature on 29 October 2026: pressing the Fn key on Mac cleans up and formats speech into final text that works in any app — notes, prompts, email and message replies — with unlimited words free, and iOS and Windows promised soon. The launch completes a two-way convergence in consumer voice AI: Wispr, built on dictation, launched a meeting notetaker in August, and Fireflies added dictation to its desktop notetaking apps in September. Granola is valued at $1.5 billion (after its March $125 million raise) and Wispr at $2 billion.
What it means for buyers
Every major AI notetaker is becoming a two-feature app — meetings plus dictation — which erodes the single-feature differentiation our ai-meeting-notes comparison scores on and shifts buying decisions toward the bundle: price, platform coverage, and where transcription runs (locally versus cloud). With dictation free and unlimited at Granola, buyers should re-check what their current tool still charges for, and expect the meeting-notes table's feature columns to converge further as Otter and the rest answer. Feature availability at launch is Mac-only; the iOS and Windows dates are vendor promises, not shipped products.
