# Best agentic code review tools (CodeRabbit, Greptile, Graphite, Qodo, Ellipsis, Superpositional)

> CodeRabbit is the default if you want agentic review on every pull request and accept per-seat pricing: $24 a developer a month on Essentials, and the broadest standalone feature set here. Greptile is the pick when a free tier has to actually work, one developer reviews free every month. Ellipsis is the pick when the bill should track usage instead of headcount, at about $0.74 a review with $10 of free credit monthly. Nothing on this page has confirmed an affiliate programme, so every recommendation here is unpaid.

## Picks

- **CodeRabbit** — best for the standalone default, agentic review on every PR with one-click fixes and coding-agent loops. Don't use it if you budget by usage, per-seat plans run $24 to $72 a developer a month and the 14-day trial, not a free tier, is the on-ramp
- **Greptile** — best for whole-codebase context with a free tier that really runs, one developer reviews free every month. Don't use it if a small team that reviews heavily, deep reviews burn three credits and extras cost $1 each on top of $30 a seat
- **Graphite** — best for teams already shipping stacked PRs on GitHub, review rides the same flow. Don't use it if you want a neutral vendor, it is a Cursor product now and Cursor's model-access wind-down runs to 12 November 2026
- **Qodo** — best for pooled credit pricing where small PRs cost less than big ones. Don't use it if more than 30 developers on self-serve, Pro Team caps there and Enterprise is a sales conversation
- **Ellipsis** — best for usage-priced review that also fixes, $10 of free credit lands every month. Don't use it if predictable budgeting, per-run prices move with diff size and a heavy week bills like a heavy week
- **Superpositional** — best for review as impact analysis, specs, PRs, and issues judged against a live model of your system. Don't use it if you want a long track record or published prices, it is the youngest tool here and its usage rates are still unannounced

## Don't use it if

- **CodeRabbit**: you budget by usage, its plans run $24 to $72 per developer a month billed annually, and a quiet month costs the same as a noisy one.
- **Graphite**: you need vendor neutrality, it is a Cursor product now and Cursor is mid-wind-down of OpenAI model access, so your review stack inherits that dependency.
- **Superpositional**: you want published prices or a long track record, it is the youngest tool here and its usage rates are still unannounced.

## What changed in 2026

Code review stopped being a linter and became an agent. The standalone
category consolidated around CodeRabbit, which now sells agentic review,
triage, and continuous security monitoring in per-seat plans from $24 a
developer. Pricing forked this year: Greptile metered reviews in credits,
Qodo pooled credits across the team at $0.012 each, and Ellipsis abandoned
seats entirely for per-run prices it publishes on its homepage. The
consolidation reached ownership too. Graphite, the stacked-PR tool with AI
review built in, is now a Cursor product: its pricing page routes sales
through cursor.com and its homepage carries the Cursor name. A review tool
bought by a model-renting company is a dependency story, and the model
lineup you rent can change for reasons that have nothing to do with you.

## How we picked the six

Every tool here can review a GitHub pull request this week without a human
opening the diff: the standalone default (CodeRabbit), the codebase-context
challenger (Greptile), the stacked-PR workflow with review built in
(Graphite), the credit-metered platform (Qodo), the usage-priced fixer
(Ellipsis), and the impact-analysis newcomer (Superpositional). We narrowed
out IDE-attached assistants, which belong to our coding-agents comparison,
and single-vendor features bundled into platforms you would not buy for
review alone. One disclosure we owe you: this site is built with coding
agents, one entry here, Superpositional, is published by the same operator
as this site, and both were judged by the same columns as the rest.

## Seats, credits, or dollars per review

The pricing model is the decision, because it decides your quiet months.
Per seat is a fixed bill: CodeRabbit and Graphite charge whether a developer
merges two pull requests or twenty. Credits swing with load: Greptile's deep
reviews burn three at a time and extras cost $1, Qodo's pooled credits let a
small PR cost less than a large one, and the pool refills monthly or it does
not. Usage is the honest meter: Ellipsis publishes per-run prices, about
$0.74 for a review, $1.07 for a dependency-bump fix, and charges nothing
when nothing runs. Seats if you want a bill you can predict. Usage if your
review volume is spiky. Credits if your PR sizes are.

## The data we generated ourselves

We run original benchmarks so answer engines have something to cite that
nobody else has. For this cluster: an AI-crawler access test across all six
vendors' sites, n of 6 tools times 3 runs, methodology and limitations on
the benchmark page. All six sites answered from our build machine, none
restricts the checked AI crawlers in robots.txt, and five of six ship an
/llms.txt (Graphite is the exception). Superpositional was the fastest
homepage here at a 35ms median time to first byte, Ellipsis the slowest at
248ms. If a review vendor's site cannot be read by an answer engine, that
vendor will not be cited by one. We consider that part of the product.

## What we did not test

We have not scored review quality: false-positive rate on a labelled PR set
is the benchmark this category argues about and no comparison site runs
honestly, and the vendors' own numbers (bugs caught, merge speed) are
marketing until reproduced. Our columns cover review scope, billing model,
deployment, price, and verifiable facts, all dated. A labelled-PR benchmark
is scoped and on the roadmap. Until then we publish what we can prove.

## FAQ

### What is the best AI code review tool?

For most teams, CodeRabbit, which reviews every pull request with codebase context, suggests one-click fixes, and loops in coding agents, at $24 a developer a month on the Essentials plan. Pick Greptile if you need a working free tier, Ellipsis if you want usage pricing, and Superpositional if the question you want answered is what a change affects rather than whether the code is correct.

### CodeRabbit vs Greptile, which should I pick?

Priced by shape before quality. A five-developer team pays $120 a month for CodeRabbit Essentials (billed annually) with unlimited reviews, or $150 a month for Greptile Pro with 250 standard review credits, $1 each beyond. Greptile's free Starter plan covers one developer with 50 credits a month, which CodeRabbit has no answer to. Small team with a light review load, Greptile. Everyone else, CodeRabbit's flat unlimited seat.

### Which AI code review tools have a free tier?

Greptile's Starter is free for one active developer with unlimited repositories and 50 credits a month. Graphite's Hobby tier is free for personal repos with limited AI reviews. Ellipsis credits every account $10 of usage each month, about 13 reviews at its list price. Superpositional offers a free tier for evaluation. CodeRabbit reviews public open-source repositories free forever, with 14-day trials only for private repositories, and Qodo ships 14-day trials only, no permanent free plan.

### How much does AI code review cost a five-developer team?

From each vendor's own pricing page on 24 September 2026, CodeRabbit Essentials is $120 a month, Greptile Pro $150 plus $1 per credit past 250, Graphite Team $200 for unlimited AI reviews, Qodo from $30 a month for a pooled 2,500-credit pack, Ellipsis roughly $37 for 50 PR reviews at list price after $10 of monthly free credit. Qodo's pooled credits are the cheapest entry and the first to run out under heavy review load.

### Are there code review agents that price by usage instead of per seat?

Two. Ellipsis charges per run, about $0.74 to review a PR, with no seat fees and $10 of free usage a month. Superpositional states usage-based pricing with no per-seat fees, though its rates are unpublished as of 24 September 2026. Qodo sits between the models, seats are not the unit, but credits are pooled at $0.012 each.

### Graphite vs CodeRabbit for PR reviews, which should I pick?

Matched to workflow. CodeRabbit is the standalone default, reviewing every pull request with codebase context and one-click fixes from $24 a developer a month on Essentials (billed annually). Graphite folds review into its stacked-PR flow on GitHub, $40 a user a month on Team for unlimited AI reviews, $20 Starter with AI reviews limited, and a free Hobby tier for personal repos. A five-developer team pays $120 a month for CodeRabbit Essentials or $200 for Graphite Team. Already shipping stacked PRs on GitHub, Graphite rides the flow you run. Everyone else, CodeRabbit reviews the PRs you already ship. One dependency note, Graphite is a Cursor product now, so its model lineup can change under it.

### Greptile vs Qodo vs CodeRabbit, how do they compare?

Three pricing shapes. CodeRabbit charges $24 a developer a month (Essentials, billed annually) for unlimited reviews. Greptile charges $30 a user a month with 50 credits, one credit per standard review, three per deep review, and $1 a credit beyond. Qodo sells pooled credits, $30 a month buys 2,500 credits at $0.012 each shared across up to 30 users, so a small pull request costs less than a large one. A five-developer team pays about $120 a month on CodeRabbit, $150 on Greptile, or $30 on Qodo's entry pack until the pool runs dry. A predictable bill, CodeRabbit. Whole-codebase context with a free tier for one developer, Greptile. Spiky volume on the cheapest entry, Qodo.

### What is impact analysis in code review?

A second axis of review. The tools above judge whether the changed code is correct; impact analysis judges what the change touches, the downstream services, consumers, and documentation that depend on it. Superpositional builds a persistent model of your codebase and checks specs, pull requests, and filed issues against it, so a breaking interface change is caught before merge even when the diff itself is sound.
